Greater London
The Hackney Adoption team are calling on families of Black and Dual heritage to think about adoption.
Adoption is about making a real difference to a child’s life. When you adopt, you provide a secure, loving home to a child forever. Like all parenting, it means sticking with it through good times and bad, and is one of the most challenging and rewarding things you can do.
Children who need adoption
There are all kinds of reasons why children cannot stay with their birth families. Some children have come from complex family backgrounds. Their parents may have abused alcohol or drugs or be suffering from mental health problems or other illnesses that have made it impossible for them to continue looking after their children.
When there is no possibility of the children returning to their birth families, it is important to make their lives as secure as possible. This is best achieved through adoption. Adopters need to be able to give these children love and security.
In Hackney we need new families for:–
- Children of Black and Mixed parentage
- Siblings who need to stay together
- Children with physical or mental disabilities
Who can adopt
We welcome people from all walks of life to think about adoption. You could be a couple, single, with or without children, over 40, gay, unemployed or employed. You don’t have to live in Hackney to adopt a hackney child, we accept applicants from all boroughs and neighbouring counties, as long as your home is secure and you have enough space in your home to care for a child as they grow.
Whatever your circumstances you just need a real interest in children, strong commitment and the time, energy and space to share your home and life with a child.
All adopters will receive information and training workshops to prepare you for adoption; a post adoption service which provides help, advice and support to adoptive parents and their children whenever needed and most importantly the reward of knowing that you have given a child in need the love and security that they deserve.
Depending on individual children’s needs, adoption allowances may also be available for adoptive families.
Next step…
We hope after reading this you have decided to take the next step towards becoming an adoptive parent. Although it may be challenging at times, it is also very emotionally rewarding and could transform a child’s life as well as your own, forever.
