You are invited to attend an afternoon of thought provoking discussion, and debate from some of the U.Ks leading academics in the field of Black History. Our launch will be hosted by broadcaster and journalist Henry Bonsu of Colourful Radio.
Come and mill around the stalls of local artists, educational organisations and community groups. Increase your knowledge of black history by attending one of our special educational family workshops. Please choose one workshop from the following three options:
Workshop 1: Steve Martin will develop ideas on medicine and science by focusing on the contributions that local doctor and political activist, Harold Moody made to the world of medicine. He will also examine the work of inventors including the revolutionary, but largely unrecognised, contributions of inventor Lewis Lar.
Workshop 2: John Siblon will run a workshop based on an interactive learning journey, where participants develop their knowledge of local black history by taking a virtual tour around sites of historical relevance in London. John specialises in identifying the presence of black and Asian people in public spaces.
Workshop 3: Join trainer, Paul Lawrence of the Life Skills Training Consultancy who will use Theos Story to illustrate what society would look like if the contributions of black people were omitted.
First class entertainment will be provided by the highly respected rap artist David Williams and pupils from The Harris Academy at Peckham. Caribbean cuisine will be served courtesy of New Initiatives caterers.
