Ben Bousquet and Colin Douglas, authors of West Indian Women at War, give an illustrated talk about life on the home front in the Caribbean during the Second World War.

Southwark historian Stephen Bourne gives an illustrated talk highlighting the wartime experiences of Britain’s Black community on the home front. The talk features a Nigerian air raid warden, a Black evacuee, Peckham’s community leader Dr Harold Moody, band-leader ‘Snakehips’ Johnson, singer Adelaide Hall, and Stephen’s Aunt Esther, who survived the London Blitz.
Ben Bousquet looks at the impact of the Second World War upon the Caribbean Island of St Lucia and at the contribution made by its people.
Actors read and sing songs from Marion Baraitser's play Mafeking/Mafikeng, which focuses on the black South African, Sol Plaatje, a translator for Baden-Powell during the Boer War.

Museum curator Alan Jeffreys talks about the important contribution made by the Indian Army during the Second World War. Followed by a screening of the BBC documentary The Forgotten Volunteers.
