The Isle of Wight will be celebrating Black History Month through a series of events aimed to highlight black history, music, art and dance and its influence on the diversity of British culture.
During October a series of performances and workshops and exhibitions are being held throughout the Island, many offering a chance to get involved: events are free unless otherwise stated.
Schools Residencies
Osagyefo Theatre Company originally from Ghana are now one of the UK’s leading African arts in education companies. During the week 9–4 October they will be running workshops and providing short performances incorporating drama, storytelling, music and dance in school and community venues throughout the Island.
Performances
Bluesman Guy Davies will be performing at Quay Arts on Friday 14 October at 8.00pm. “"Often touted as a member of the new generation of country blues artists, Guy Davis is well-versed in the music's traditions. Exhibitions
There will be an exhibition of Black History on the Isle of Wight at Customer Services at County Hall throughout October from Monday 10.
